Baladi Playlist 2: Modern & Fusion

Hello again!
Today we will listen to six of my favorite non-traditional songs that have a Baladi rhythm. Again, notice how Baladi gives them a very earthy, sultry feel, especially when the tempo isn't too fast.

Since some of you have been asking me if I will be teaching how to dance in addition to what to listen for, I have included some DVDs that teach steps or routines that go well with these great songs.

0:00 Wala Ala Balow by Amr Diab.

0:31 Batwannis Beek remix. This is a crazy version of this song — it's sped up and has a techno beat layered on top of the original drums.

1:00 Rebirth 2 by Solace. In my DVD Sensual Bellydance you can learn steps that go well with this and any other song with a Baladi rhythm.

1:29 Naga by Solace. Check out the Love Potion Bellydance Workout DVD to dance to this tune.

2:10 Brooklyn Baladi by Djinn. Brad tells us that this song is so groovy because it's rhythm is a Baladi followed by a Saidi: DD tkT D tkT tk TD tk DD tkT tk. This is my favorite song for teaching the challenging Arabic Hip Walk. To learn this and other cool steps, pick up my DVD Sensual Bellydance.

2:40 Ballad E by Pete List. This song's rhythm is Pete's very own Baladi-based variation and the tune is slow in the key of E — hence its name :) This song is featured in Kassar's Fluid Precision DVD.

My next playlist includes Classic Maqsum songs.
